Beach Club after work

La Dolce Vita is a after work that has been going on for quite some time now, this Thursday they are starting to host it at the Melow Beach Club.

We have to add some complains though to this new beach club, the service is really a mess day time at the hamacas. You would think that the fact that you pay over price on everything and 30-80 euros for a sun bed should at least include service. Most probably it's just bad organisation and poor communication between the employees as they all tell you different menus, drink policies and rules that the beach club has.

Hopefully this will all change now when it had its oficial opening party Tuesday,  a party where Custo invited 3000 people for free food and open bar all night long. Including a Custo fashion show with famous model Esther Cañadas as the front figure.

However this after work is normally a success and hosting it at the beach will most possible draw attention to an even bigger crowd. The free Italian “Apperitivo” (which means you just have to buy a drink) starts at 20h and ends at 23h.

Tomato - Petit Plats

This restaurant has managed to create a different kind of concept – here eating is about having fun. It is more or less a tapas bar but everything is given a careful presentation with a huge variety of flavors.

The best part is that over the weekend they are open until 03.00 in the morning so it is perfect for a late night dinner with friends before hitting the dance floor. The atmosphere is relaxed and the décor is modern, what first catch your eye will be their big chandelier.

CARNACELONA - Summer Carnival in Barcelona

The biggest carnival in Barcelona is here. Last year thousands of people attended this event and celebrated in true Brazilian summer spirit. The event will have 3.000 International people coming from all over the world. The famous group ASA DE AGUIA (Brazilian Legendary Official Carnival) will be playing live and The Dj line up is following: DJ DONNIE (Funk “carioca”), DJ ALEX BARROSO (Deep House), ALMIR SERRA (Brazilian MPB), CHAZZ ROCKWELL (New York city & hiphop DJ), SERGI DOMENECH ( Dj Resident Oshum & Flax FM).

The event starts at 19h. Entrance is 25€ and VIP Area from 50-300€. Unfortunatley the ayuntamiento is causing trouble as usual to host the event outside as they did last year but Oshum with its new terrace space will for sure make this a party to remember anyway.

Isabella’s

This is one of those restaurants that you get really happy that you found. Unfortunately the food is not amazing (except the meat so that’s what you should order) but it’s more the vibrant surrounding that will make this place one of your favorites. The chairs and sofas are all in different shapes and colors, there are fresh flowers on the tables and they have a very charming terrace outside with lit candles.

It’s an excellent place for any type of dinners, socially with friends or the first date when you need some distractions to keep the conversations floating. This place is crowded all days all week so book a table in advance. This is where the 30something cool Cats are hanging out if you were wondering where they were hiding all the time. Charming, great service and lots of personality. Dix points!

Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas are a socially conscious group with connections going back to high school when members were part of Tribal Nation, a break dancing crew. Eventually the pair focused more on music, hip-hop specifically and no one has been able to avoid their success the latest years. We recon everyone will be jumping to the summer club hit “I Gotta Feeling”. Starts at 20h.

Casa Alfonso

This cute little restaurant has opened its outdoor terrace which is the coziest place ever to hang out at. They have lit torches on their little outdoor space which sends out a harmonic scent and gives the place a special ambiance. Sit here at night and gossip with friends or drink wine with someone you like, we promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

Hot this week

Mandarin Oriental

This is the most expensive hotel in Barcelona but has still managed to book ALL the rooms. The hotel is completely new and is now starting to work on their more social events for us locals. The most extraordinary area at the hotel is the Mimosa Garden which is the perfect place to have lunch with clients as its quiet and relaxing. The beautiful surroundings of the garden itself, the white straw chairs and helpful waiters all wearing cool sun hats ads up to a very pleasant visit. If you eat here we recommend their fantastic gazpacho and “pollo a la plancha”, afterwards you should sit and just enjoy the atmosphere for a while before heading back to the office.

Another thing that is highly recommended to try is their SPA area which is absolutely amazing. For the couples who really want to spoil themselves they have a own personal SPA room/suite that can be yours for 3hr 50 min at the cost of 970€. That’s what we call a great Valentines present.

If you did not attend their event Wednesday night we recommend you to look out for their next “soirée” to get well connected with the social elite of Barcelona and sip on deliciouse cosmopolitans all night.

About Us

Approximately seven years ago two young and adventurous girls arrived to a city with no limits – Barcelona.

Both from Stockholm, one blonde and the other a brunette, met for the first time in an exclusive million dollar wine cellar belonging to a friend. That was the beginning of a very long and still ongoing story.

The blonde girl, called Kattis, used to work for a PR company organizing trendy events in Stockholm. She gave the impression of being a strong and curious woman with a lot of character. The brunette who was a few years younger called Laura had just arrived on a plane from London; she was a very energetic and outgoing girl however clear on what she wanted in life.

That night was the beginning of what now has come true - Barcelona By Us. They wanted to document their crazy but fun time in Barcelona - the city of freedom, independence and the playground of the world where everything was allowed. They wanted to share their experiences with the rest of the world and their promise was sealed with a toast of Dom Pérignon 98 and a shot of vodka. Time passed and they each went their own way, Kattis started studying image consulting and Laura went back to London to do a degree in business.

Seven years later they are sitting next to each other working for the same company in the mobile industry. It didn’t take long before the idea was back in their lives, ready to be at service for the rest of the city.

Barcelona By Us was created 11th of January 2009 and will be in your phone, on the street, in the clubs and of course on the web. It will be providing you with the latest updates of all the good and traditional favourite restaurants, fun party places, art exhibitions, concerts and much more, all experienced and tested by our excellent taste. Everything you need to know to experience the city of Barcelona in the best way possible, week by week…
